We are co-organizing this amazing event with the Dutch Chamber on the topic of ESG.
ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) is becoming more and more important as a barometer for corporate performance. Awareness is growing among companies that including a ESG strategy into the company's core structure is important for the wider sustainability of the company in terms of maintaining capital influx, maintaining customers and talent while at the same time we are aware of our personal responsibility to make this planet a better place.
The rise of ESG creates possibilities
- A chance to distinguish your company from the competitors by a high ESG rating
- Create start‐ups specialised in aspects of ESG strategy
- The rise of ESG creates also difficulties and questions
- While larger companies are appointing there in‐house ESG managers or are creating their own ESG or sustainability department, SME companies are often at a loss how to implement (parts of) ESG strategy within their companies. This is mainly due to the complexity and broad scope of ESG, the relative novelty of many aspects of ESG and also because a lack of resources and time to give sufficient attention to creating and implementing a custom‐made strategy
In this meeting we are trying to give SME's (80 % of the Chambers members):
- A first introduction into ESG
- A short introduction by our 3 panel members about themselves in relation to ESG policy and a short view on implementing ESG policy within SME's
- A panel discussion (3 panel members) with a moderator and hopefully a lot of questions from the audience
There will be drinks and network opportunities afterwards.

Originally from Groningen in the north of The Netherlands, Bert founded his first firm, Architecture Studio Sitec, in 1993 in the medieval city of Zwolle, chosen for its predicted growth potential. He established a new practice in Hong Kong to expand on his Dutch building philosophy in 2013. Both companies now operate as one, under the company name STUDIO SITEC.

Tom Uiterwaal, since 10 years active in the Waste-to-Energy industry both in Asia and Europe, is Founder and CEO of Reconergy (Hong Kong) Ltd. Reconergy is focused on the UCO and biodiesel trade and turning Municipal Solid Waste into green electricity. In 2017, Reconergy became the proud winner of the Cathay Pacific Shooting Star award. Before Tom moved to Asia he worked for 12 years with CARGILL, the biggest food ingredients company in the world, in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

Tom van der Lee, chair of DutchCham ESG Committee, based in Hong Kong, is currently a Finance Director - Group - Sustainability, Commercial, Procurement and Support Functions at DFI Retail Group, bringing experience from previous roles at DFI Retail Group and Betagen. Tom van der Lee holds a 2015 - 2016 Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) @ Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA. With a robust skill set that includes Leadership, Management, Financial Reporting, Project Management, Public Speaking and more, Tom van der Lee contributes valuable insights to the industry.
