A Chara Welcome to our first full Year of the Rabbit newsletter.
It’s been a busy month with your board and members bravely attending warm social events where they were forced to eat excellent food and drink while making new connections and boosting Irish businesses in Hong Kong.
The first of these events was our monthly Harp Networking event on January 17, where Ireland’s Ambassador to China, Ann Derwin, joined members for a relaxed conversation over drinks and snacks featuring fine Irish produce at Delaney’s in Wan Chai. |
|
As always, it was a great opportunity to network with like-minded professionals and, for a few, a golden chance to talk about foreign policy with Ambassador Derwin, who was her always charming and humorous self.
Earlier in the day, President Padraig Seif and Vice-President Alexander May met with Ambassador Derwin, Consul General of Ireland David Costello, Deputy Consul General Katrina Devine, Henry Au, and St. Patrick’s Society chair Marilouise Hughes to discuss the “hardship” of the last three years and the way forward … and driving licenses. |
|
On February 2nd, we headed over to Tsim Sha Tsui to join 12 other international chambers in Hong Kong for the annual Joint Chamber CNY Networking Cocktail with the generous support of InvestHK. With not a mask in sight for the first time since, who can remember, the event featured a spectacular Lion dance and a truly vibrant atmosphere, which the 260 professionals from the international business community in Hong Kong seemed to thoroughly enjoy, making the most of the chance to make new connections and friends. |

And there’s more… Because March is a particularly busy time for the Irish, with two major events on the cards – one providing the opportunity to turn everything in sight green and the other to celebrate a game about which Ireland can boast the oldest continuous club in existence. But before we get into the March shenanigans (probably not an Irish word but could be) we need to let you know there will be another Harp Networking event on February 23rd - details, venue and chance to buy a ticket below. |
|
And so to March… When of course, it’s St. Patrick’s Day, which you’ve probably already guessed. This year we are teaming up with the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong on March 16th to celebrate all things Irish. This makes sense when you consider the United States is home to more Irish Americans, nearly 35 million, than Ireland is home to Irish, under five million. (The Irish do get about, which is a very good reason to consider joining the chamber.) You can find all the details below for what promises to be a grand event and a marvelous opportunity to make new connections, Irish or otherwise. |
|
We’ve also got sport, with our Rugby Sevens Dinner on March 29th, at which you will enjoy a good meal, in good company and if you’re feeling brave, you can advise the Ireland team on how to improve their game. Professional rugby players just love that. (Yes, Dublin University has a strong claim to have the oldest rugby club in continuous existence, founded in 1854.) |
|
In other news… We’d like to warmly welcome our latest corporate sponsor, Sors Digital Assets.
Established in 2018 in Hong Kong by Brian Elders and Stephen Browne, and operating as a VASP in Ireland, Sors is a leading blockchain financial services company building solutions and products for the Web 3.0 ecosystem. Their vision is to build the digital economy of tomorrow within an ecosystem of companies that create long-term value in the blockchain, and the virtual assets industry and you can connect with them directly here. |
|
And if you’ve enjoyed reading this … Then please do join our all-new, and very exciting, Whatsapp group. This group will provide members with an easy way to stay up to date on the latest news, events, and updates from the Chamber. Members can also easily connect with each other and share ideas and resources. We look forward to seeing what conversations and collaborations emerge from it. |
|
Oh, and one more thing… If you haven’t already, why not join us? The Irish Chamber can offer you the kind of support, advice and network you won’t get anywhere else.
You know good business is about connections and opportunities, but without the first you won’t get the second. Our members have a wealth of experience in a wide range of fields across international borders, all of which can help you save time, energy, and money.
If you’re serious about growing in 2023 and want to: - Build business contacts;
- Obtain customer referrals;
- Boost your business’ visibility;
- Network successfully;
- Gain a voice in the community;
Or just grow your social network, then join us and together, let’s make 2023 a year to remember … for all the right reasons. |
